Cool Informations on HP PCs

The Hewlett-Packard Company, better known by the abbreviation HP, is a technology corporation based in Palo Alto, California. It is perhaps best known for its personal computers or PCs.
  1. History

    • HP's first PC was the HP-85, a desktop released in 1980, which looked similar to a typewriter. Its first portable computer, the HP-75C--it also worked as a clock and appointment alarm--followed in 1982. The first HP laptops, the 95LX and OmniBook 300, appeared in 1991 and 1993, respectively. It was the Pavilion series, however, that truly launched HP's reputation in the field when it debuted in 1995. Today, they remain the company's most popular line of computers, mainly because they run the gamut of computing from everyday use to high performance.

    HP Laptops/Notebooks

    • With the acquisition of PC company Compaq in 2002, HP inherited the Compaq Presario series. These computers constitute part of the company's laptop line for everyday users, who merely need their machines to perform basic computing tasks such as email and word processing. In April 2010, HP produced the Pavilion dm3z and dm3t series comprising HP's ultra-thin notebooks, and the Pavilion dv series. Both series are technical powerhouses for those interested in playing video games. The ENVY series represent the company's top-of-the-line laptops.

    HP Desktops

    • The Pavilion p series represents HP's lowest level of desktop computers, designed with enough power and features for basic computing. The Slimline represents the company's slim and sleek desktops, and the Elite is the top-level machine. HP also offers all-in-one workstations, which combine the PC and the monitor.

    Reception

    • In 2010, information technology research firm Gartner, Inc. reported HP had almost 20 percent of the PC market share. In the previous year, however, computer publication PC World and consumer electronics warranty provider SquareTrade noted that HP ranked as one of the lowest companies in terms of PC reliability.

    Price Range

    • The pricing of HP PCs depends on the type of customers for which each machine is designed. The computers designed for everyday use are the least expensive ones, going for as low as $300 after rebates as of April 2010. At the other side of the spectrum are the high-performance PCs. The ENVY is the most expensive that HP has to offer.
